Get Paid for Your Opinions - Focus Groups
A focus group is an opinion-seeking panel discussion where consumers are asked to share their ideas about new products or services. It can be brainstorming in front of a white board; tasting new beverages and helping to name them; and looking at ads and saying what they make you think of.
Groups usually consist of 8 to 10 people who join in a discussion led by a professional moderator. Often the participants in each group have common traits, experiences, or characteristics that allow the discussions to be interesting and informative.
There is this myth that lots of research firms are paying big money for participation in research. Yes, occasionally they will pay for participation, but it is usually under specific circumstances. It is supposed to be a reward for your time, it is not meant to be a money maker. This is not like applying for a job.
Many research firms don't want "professional participants" -- In fact it is considered bad research to use a participant that has participated in other research projects within the past year. Do not apply to or bother companies that do not seek participants. They will simply blacklist you.
There are some legitimate companies that have databases where they collect names and send them periodic surveys. Generally, however, they pay a really small amount or they enter you in a contest for participation. It certainly is not any way to make lots of money.
